Climbing to the Summit of Athos

The third journey is a climb: from the last sketes and hermitages, the trail rises to the summit of Athos at 2,033 metres, the highest point of the peninsula, where the small chapel of the Transfiguration stands.

It is a route of endurance and silence, with a view over the whole Aegean. Vasilis Bitsis' camera follows pilgrims and monks through one of the most striking landscapes of Mount Athos — one of the most loved episodes of the series.
