Saint Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia (born Evangelos Bairaktaris) was born in 1906 on Evia and reposed in 1991. He left for Mount Athos as a boy and practised asceticism at Kafsokalyvia, from which he took his name.

He was known for his gift of insight and foresight and for his boundless love and discernment. For years he served as a priest in Athens, where crowds sought his counsel and prayer; many testimonies describe miraculous events from his life.
